Immortals Fenyx Rising originally called Gods and Monsters is the latest open-world game from Ubisoft. Perhaps for many of you, may have not heard it before and may be wondering what is this new game that Ubisoft is bringing. To find out more, check out this review where you will learn more about Immortals Fenyx Rising.
From the moment you enter the game, you will notice our two narrators who will accompany us throughout our journey in this game: Prometheus who brought the fire to the people and was imprisoned for it, and Zeus who is the god of lightning, and the most powerful among them, who also imprisoned Prometheus.
Zeus is seeking the help of the Titans in order to turn the world as it was after the titan Typhon escaped from Tartarus and snatched from some of the gods their powers and form. Instead of helping Zeus directly, Prometheus tells him the story of Fenyx, a mortal man with no fighting skills who will be the one to save the world from Typhon and his curse that has turned all people to stone. Throughout the story of the game, Prometheus and Zeus along with some other god will narrate to us the story of Fenyx often exchanging jokes and introducing us deeper into Greek mythology in an incredibly engaging and interesting way.
The game often offered us doses of humour and to be honest we had a lot of fun with it. The more you advance in the game the more comic the conversation between these two gods becomes giving Immortal Fenyx Rising a unique narrative style. But it must be said that this depends on the sense of humour of the person who plays the game. Immediately after this intro, you will have the opportunity to create your own character where the game offers you an acceptable amount of opportunities. You will then have the opportunity to learn movement and some basic fighting moves through some tutorials and also get some of the godly powers that the game offers.
In terms of combat, we can say that the game is very similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fighting, exploring and many other features are inspired by this game but the nice thing is that everything is built in a special way which makes that despite being similar to Breath of the Wild again you can feel the difference from this game.
For exploration, we can say that it is a nice mix to some extent between Assassin’s Creed and Breath of the Wild. Overall it’s not that we feel too much like we were exploring. To unlock a part of the map you will need to climb to the highest place. Then you will need to find the different locations that this part of the world has. It may seem a bit unreasonable but it is what it is.
The combat system is different from any other game Ubisoft has created as it offers a variety of moves and combinations depending on the skills you choose to upgrade. The game will offer you a huge variety of weapons and gear where each of them has a certain ability allowing you to combine and experiment with them.
During the fights, you will have the opportunity to perform various combos which is incredibly fun allowing you to try many different types of moves which you will never feel bored. You can fight your opponents from close or far range, from the air or you can fill the Stun Gauge which after filling puts the opponent in a shock mode where you can cause him a lot of damage and kill him easily. Opponents are diverse making you master the mechanics like parrying and counter-attack.
Weapons and gear system
When you upgrade one of your weapons or gear, you upgrade the entire section of that weapon or gear. In short, if you upgrade your sword, you will upgrade the entire section of swords making it quite easy work. During the game you will enter the Vaults of Tartaros which are special areas where you can get various weapons and equipment like sword, axe or bow etc., solving puzzles or facing different opponents.
During confrontations with the opponents, you will get points which you can spend to improve your skills or godly powers which enable new strategies during duels or solving puzzles. Puzzles in the game at first will seem interesting and simple but over time they will become annoying. There are times when after solving a puzzle you will enter another puzzle and then enter another puzzle again. Sometimes it can happen that he does not give you any help on how to complete that puzzle by taking away to some extent that fun you get.
The world and the characters are very beautifully constructed with their colourful style and in a cartoon form. Their design is incredibly unique and also the world you are in has its biomes giving it a different feel when you are in each of them. We played the game on PC and had no bugs or glitches except for a few cases where a lag of 1 second could happen but which did not bother us much and which has to be fixed in the future.
To have a complete game experience we recommend you to do other activities that the game offers such as finding treasures, finding and performing the remaining Vaults of Tartaros, various challenges which include combat, exploration, puzzle and listening to music that you need to play again. In short, you have many things to do that will entertain and reward you by giving you weapons, gear and points with which you can become more powerful and develop your combat skills more.
To put it simply, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a game similar to Breath of the Wild, made by Ubisoft in its own way and embellished with Greek mythology and offering imperfect things that are offset by others. that are very nicely realized.
