Today more than ever people are playing video games. Day by day we see successful stories of streamers or games that simply rise out of nowhere. Among Us was a perfect example of this, as years after its launch, the game suddenly became the headline for any gamer or streamer. Similarly it seems it is Rust’s turn to ascend this throne. But what is Rust and why is it so famous?
By classic definition Rust is an online multiplayer survival game created by Facepunch Studios. You may already know the studio for Garry’s Mod. Rust has been in early access since 2013 and had its launch on Steam in 2018. Anyway about two years later it is finally getting the spotlight, by breaking player records and viewing records on Twitch.
Of course the essence of the game, or rather the way it is structured has a lot to do with this. Rust is very similar to other popular games like Minecraft and DayZ and has borrowed some elements from them. Your goal is to gather the materials needed to build work tools, weapons, clothing and of course your own base in the game.
You will encounter wild animals in the game like bears or wolves, but you can also encounter other players who will be either allies or enemies. You can play alone, or with your friends, just keep in mind that everything is unpredictable and your friends can betray you at any given moment.
It is perhaps this element and the flow of events that take place in this brutal PvP world, that has attracted many players lately. A good portion of Rust’s success also relates to Twitch, where streamers are playing it more and more and where they have created their in-game servers.
The game recently broke the record for the number of players for the second time and has won over $ 1 million twice in one week.
It is worth mentioning that there are many similarities with Among Us, not in the logic of the game, but in the way it is growing. Similarly Rust is also growing in popularity due to the exposure provided by streamers. People watch their favorite game broadcasts and run away to buy it for themselves.
You can find Rust on Steam for 33.99 euros. Facepunch Studios also plans to bring the game to consoles in the near future.
It seems Rust has a good path ahead. However, it is yet unknown how much it will be able to keep the position it currently occupies. If there’s one thing we’ve learned so far in gaming, it’s that: the faster you grow, the faster you can fall.
