Nowadays, even players who do not want to spend a lot to have a variety of choices in terms of peripherals. SteelSeries Rival 3 can establish itself as a better mouse for gamers who do not want to spend a lot of money.
It manages to do this successfully simply by making you good enough, but without having any special features that make it stand out from other mice.
Externally, Rival 3 has a shape that fits the left hand, but also the right. However, the side buttons are only on the left side of the mouse, giving an advantage to right-handed players.
This mouse, like many other cheaper mice, is slightly smaller than a standard mouse game. It comes slightly elevated to the back, making it more suitable for the claws and fingers of the hand. While the handgrip is not even that comfortable.
The outside is in front of textured plastic, making this mouse feel quite good even solid. Rival 3 weighs about 80g, an average weight. The only complaint we have about the design is the fact that the Rival 3 cable is not knitted. But it is always a not-bad cable as it does not bother you while you are playing.
SteelSeries Rival 3 comes with an impressive number of features considering its price tag. This mouse comes with the TrueMove Core sensor from SteelSeries, which allows you to choose from 100 – 8500 DPI.
Maybe not a very high figure but for most gamers, the 85 00 DPIs are more than enough. You can hold down the two settings for DPI and switch from one to the other via the button located below the mouse wheel.
Rival 3 comes with 6 buttons, including standard buttons, mouse wheel, DPI change button, and 2 side buttons. The side buttons have been slightly modified from previous versions of the Rival 100 and Rival 110, as they are now slightly thinner.
SteelSeries promises that these buttons can withstand up to 60 million clicks. In terms of RGB lighting, the Rival 3 has 3 lighting zones. This mouse has a highlighted bar at the bottom and also the logo. Lighting can be controlled via SteelSeries Engine and there are plenty of options.
In our opinion, Rival 3 is one of the most beautiful looking mouse for its price. We would recommend it if you value the performance as much as the beauty of your setup.
SteelSeries Rival 3 performs quite well in a variety of games. The sensor of this mouse is quite accurate and it is not that we noticed any major difference compared to other more expensive mice. The main buttons feel good when used and do not give that feeling to give some other mice cheaper.
The mouse wheel also moves well and there is no annoying noise. The only complaint we have is the fact that the side buttons are thinner than they should be. This may cause them not to feel as premium as the main ones, making them a little difficult to use while playing.
Conclusion – Is SteelSeries Rival 3 worth?
Overall, for its price, the SteelSeries Rival 3 is one of the best mice on the market, both in terms of design and performance. The mouse is quite resistant, the sensor and buttons perform well and the RGB lighting looks quite nice. Some features like a braided cable are missing but at this price, competitors are few.
